Weller Soldering Irons and anything else you
might need for your soldering project. I have also provided you
guys with a nice little guide on how to get you using your
weller soldering iron straight away. Obviously you should
always read the instructions that come with you weller
soldering iron but this should stand as a handy little quick
reference guide should you need it. There are a few things
to consider when soldering but first lets talk about safety
precautions.
Safety precautions when using your Weller Soldering
Iron.
1. Make sure your working environment is well
ventilated.
2. Make sure to aways wash your hands after handling any
soldering equipment.
3. Never ever ever touch the element on the soldering iron,
they are extremly hot and will easily burn through skin on
contact!
4. Make sure to always ensure that your soldering iron is
placed safely on its bench when not in use.
5. You should also take extra precaution to not accidently
leave your soldering iron anywhere that it might damage your
work surface.
Tips on How to Solder
How to prepare your soldering
iron:
1. Ensure soldering iron is in its stand and switch it on,
allow for a few minutes while your iron heats up to the its
full potential.
2. Run your spong under a cold tap until it is damp, not
soaking, place back on the stand.
3. Check that your solder is at the optimal temperature by
melting some solder on the tip of the iron.
4. Clean the tip of the soldering iron with your damp
sponge.
5. Melt a little bit of solder onto the tip of your
soldering iron.
Congratulations, you can now begin
soldering!
I find its best to hold your weller soldering iron
as if it is a pencil and imagine you are writing in a notebook
with it, this allows you to solder naturally without too much
effort as I'm sure you have experience writing! Its always best
to avoid touch the actual joint you are trying to solder. You
should now be ready to feed a little solder onto the joint
remember to add the solder to the jont and not the weller
soldering iron. You can now take away the solder while ensuring
the joint remains still. Remeber to always allow the joint a
few seconds to cool before you move the circuit board.
Carefully check the joint to make sure that it is shinny and
free from imperfections. Job done. Now it's time to sit down
and have a cup of tea :)
